Short Tennis Breaks in the UK

Cardiff Tennis Breaks are new to our site and offer short break tennis in the United Kingdom. Led by the experienced coach Mike Gillies, the tennis is played on indoor courts right in the centre of Cardiff.

mikeMike has been coaching tennis for over 30 years including time at Windmill Hill Tennis and Golf Academy in East Sussex and as resort coach in Europe and the Middle East. He has had a great deal of experience working with club players of all standards.

While Mike was senior coach at Windmill Hill Tennis and Golf Academy his clients included Sir Cliff Richard, Mike Read (DJ), Ian and Victoria Hislop, Cheryl Baker (Bucks Fizz), Matthew Macfadyen (Actor) and Steve Parrish (World Superbike Champion).

Accommodation

For our tennis breaks we use the Hilton Cardiff, right in the heart of the city. The hotel, across the road from Cardiff Castle has 197 guest rooms and suites.  The hotel is within easy walking distance of the railway station and provides valet parking at a cost of £25 a night.

Guests benefit from an indoor swimming pool and fitness centre. The Razzi restaurant provides modern cuisine and delicious cocktails are served in the Metropole bar.

Samply Itinerary

Day 1 ( Monday)

  • 08:00
    Meet at the tennis centre for breakfast (optional extra) and programme introduction
  • 09:00
    Forehand – concentrating on control, spins, grips etc. with drills and games to underpin and practise the skills taught. Forehand and backhand to be videoed for analysis during the break.
  • 10:30
    Coffee break and analysis of forehand and backhand.
  • 11:30
    Backhand – concentrating on control, spin grips etc. working from video analysis and leading to drills and games to underpin and practise the skills taught.
  • 12:00
    Lunch
  • 13:00
    Rallying session – concentrating on both defence and attack leading to drills and games to reinforce and enhance the skills learnt in the morning sessions on your forehand and backhand.
  • 15:00
    Finish – Free time

Day 2 (Tuesday)

  • 08:00
    Meet at the tennis centre for breakfast (own expense) and programme introduction
  • 09:00
    Forehand – concentrating on control, spins, grips etc. with drills and games to underpin and practise the skills taught. Forehand and backhand to be videoed for analysis during the break.
  • 10:30
    Coffee break and analysis of forehand and backhand.
  • 11:30
    Backhand – concentrating on control, spin grips etc. working from video analysis and leading to drills and games to underpin and practise the skills taught.
  • 12:00
    Lunch (own expense)
  • 13:00
    Rallying session – concentrating on both defence and attack leading to drills and games to reinforce and enhance the skills learnt in the morning sessions on your forehand and backhand.

    Finish – Free time

Day 3 (Wednesday)

  • 08:00
    Meet at the tennis centre for breakfast (own expense) and introduction to day 3.
  • 09:00
    Volley – Volleying technique, volleying from different areas of the court. Attacking from different areas leading to first volley after serve, when to intercept and volley to videoed for analysis during the break.
  • 10:30
    Coffee break and analysis of Volley.
  • 11:00
    Smash – Leading on from the volley session, how to and when to use the smash. Practise to consolidate skills learnt leading to match play.
  • 12:00
    Lunch (own expense)
  • 13:00
    End of tennis break fun American Doubles Tournament.
  • 15:00
    Finish and prize giving
